Why I am planning to transition out of mechanical engineering

Just people tend to pretty often look over my shoulder and try to opine about how something would be better without any info on what is going on.

It's because normally mechanical design is pretty intuitive unless we are looking at gear ratios or lift on a wing etc.

But Electrical Engineers don't have to deal with this BS. I think fewer people are looking over their shoulders because you actually need some training to be able to understand how to make a lithium ion power supply circuit.

So that is why I am doing the second degree.

Also there are other issues I don't like about Mechanical Engineering jobs. Most of these jobs are basically CAD monkey jobs. Just messing around with Solidworks or AutoCAD all day etc. Even some high schoolers can do that.

Also I have found that it is extremely heavy on drafting but I didn't know when I started this path that I would be so much of a drafter.

I want to more of a Finite Element Analysis person if I have to be a Mechanical Engineer but I have found that this normally means you need a Master's degree to apply.

I think when I finish the EE degree I am working on in the evenings I will use the degree along with my PLC knowledge to get into industrial automation.

There will still be drafting and CAD monkeying around but there will probably be less of it considering I will need to focus a whole lot more on design.

Also I definitely don't want to be a manager at this company. Maybe at a different company but not at this one. I have noticed that manager titles at this company is kind of like just having more people point the finger at you for anything that ever goes wrong.

Oh one more thing I forgot to mention is that because Electrical Engineers so frequently work with me they themselves often know how to do some of my tasks as a Mechanical Engineer. I don't want to be in a position in the future where other people can do both my job and theirs. I almost feel like unless I am a Stress Engineer being a Mechanical Engineer is like a lesser engineer compared to Electrical Engineers and this is also typically reflected in salary as well!

I didn't know any of these things when I started on this road. I remember I always thought to myself that I am a fluids engineer but I never knew that most of those jobs happen to be HVAC related.

Like I didn't sign up to be an HVAC repair man! I work in the defense industry and that's cool but most of the work is structural related not fluids related.
