I did it! I gave my retirement date

I read something that hit me hard. The average age to retire is 67 and the average death age is 76. You work all of your life to only live maybe 10 years after you retire. Not fair. I have too much to do before I even think of dying.

Retirement has always been a dream, but always so far away, until one morning; I woke up and said "It's time".

So I announced to the owners that I was retiring next year. I won't meet all of my financial goals, but close enough.

I told an attorney that i am close to what my plans were. He told me I would never last in retirement and asked what did I plan to do with my spare time. I have always had hobbies but not enough time to sit and enjoy them.

I gave him the list and I think he was a little shocked. (I won't be spending eons on SW btw)

It will be bittersweet but I am happy with my decision.

Trying to figure out when to retire is often a difficult decision. I was seriously contemplating it last year after my health issues. I’m actually glad I stayed as it gives me a purpose. Of course, a time will come when I say that’s enough.

Good for you for coming to that point. It sounds like you have things to occupy your time; which I think is critical in retirement. I’ve always heard that you shouldn’t retire from something, but to something.

@sciguy18 that is excellent advice. I have always had hobbies but could never get to them. We have a lady in our office thats 79 with no hobbies. So she works
