I did it! I gave my retirement date

I read something that hit me hard. The average age to retire is 67 and the average death age is 76. You work all of your life to only live maybe 10 years after you retire. Not fair. I have too much to do before I even think of dying.

Retirement has always been a dream, but always so far away, until one morning; I woke up and said "It's time".

So I announced to the owners that I was retiring next year. I won't meet all of my financial goals, but close enough.

I told an attorney that i am close to what my plans were. He told me I would never last in retirement and asked what did I plan to do with my spare time. I have always had hobbies but not enough time to sit and enjoy them.

I gave him the list and I think he was a little shocked. (I won't be spending eons on SW btw)

It will be bittersweet but I am happy with my decision.

Things I learned…

Money isn’t everything.
Don’t get lazy. Be committed. Keep a schedule of things to do.
Friends are important.

@LunarOrbit good advice! Unfortunately, money is necessary since I run the entire ship here. I am in good shape though

@akindheart Yes. All I meant was some people think retirement needs to be lavish with travel and a cottage on the water etc. As long as your basic needs are met, enjoy the simple things in life.

@LunarOrbit I am self supporting so i had to think of the money. I make very good money so giving it up was a big decision. i started paying off debt as fast as i could and i am in pretty good shape. i have never been lavish on anything!

@akindheart Sounds well planned. Good for you! I’m glad you can make it all work out :)
