I completely changed my career path about 21 years ago. I was stuck in a dead end job with no way to progress. I changed to something I loved doing at the time, but took a pay cut to do this. I eventually got to a better salary (not what it should be) and things were going OK.
The job became even more demanding for no more pay. I have stepped down and now working part time, before I go right off my nut.
My advice would be to concentrate on getting in to the industry you will enjoy. Once you are there, build on what you know and enjoy.
Good luck.
