I got the job!

YAY!

More money.
More research, and much less "clerical" work.
I will be working directly for my boss' boss.

I do not know yet when I officially start. In any event, I am in the middle of two projects which still must get done. Then after I will start new things. My office supports three statistical surveys, yet I mostly just worked on one. Now I will expand to the other two. So much to learn! I hope they ease me into it!

I should have a drink now (I am at lunch) but I have to go back to work after.

Again, YAY!

My sammich just arrived!

Double yay!

I am nervous. But I'll just put my head down and plow through it.

@JoyfulSilence if you can repair a mouse's left click, the world is your oyster. 😆

@JoyfulSilence If your fundamentals are strong (you're a mathematician, duh) and you're more curious than afraid then I'm sure you'll learn by trial and error and systematic troubleshooting.

I have 24 years of experience doing research projects. When I was hired I knew nothing about the survey-program or the software, etc. Now I am considered an expert on some things.

@JoyfulSilence 24 years, that's worth it's weight in experience. I hope they let you lead a team. It's so satisfying when you get the resources to run a project to completion and not feel burned out.

I do not want to lead a team.

I actually passed up other promotions ("team leader" positions) just so I would not havd to lead. I also do not want to be a supervisor.

@JoyfulSilence same here so I understand that the babysitting role is a joy killer and not a silent one.
If you're offered to train someone though, that can be very rewarding.

I do not mind teaching, as long as I have the time.

@JoyfulSilence I hear you there too. If I'm in demand for teaching someone a skill or for troubleshooting an issue, I sometimes use that to break the flow of my work. 15 minutes, I hit the main point and let them figure out the rest. I circle back if necessary.

When I return to my task, I feel re-energized so it's a win-win.

Sorry to make this reply about me but I feel like you can understand.
