What are the rules on labor laws?

I have a friend who is working a ridiculous job. It's security, but he gets no time off. Aren't there labor laws? He has not had two consecutive days off in months, He rarely gets breaks when he is actually at work, He gets less than 8 hours in between He gets off and his next workday. They won't give him vacation days, He sometimes only has one day off in a week and IF it's two, they are non-consecutive days. He does not have a set schedule. The schedule is set at the beginning of the week and his boss changes it randomly and at the last minute. So for instance, if he has worked all week and finally has a scheduled day off, his boss would often call the day off and tell him to come in. He is also bounced from different locations.

What can he do?

Can he report this? To whom can he report it to?

I live probably in one of the most liberal of states ... California.

Yet not even at one job in that state was there a maximum number of days they could work any employee.

For three months solid I worked 10 hour days.

Now breaks are a total different thing. They had to by state law give us regular breaks every 2 hours even an extra half hour lunch after 12 hours which happened a couple of times.

Check with your state for certain. Many states are far, far worse. Like Texas a so called "right to work" state. Which means no breaks!
