If i lowballed myself when they asked me about salary expecation, and they say this is a little more than your salary requirements, can i negotiate?

Yes, you could be happy youre getting more than you expected, but they still could be lowballing you based on their pay grade range. It was a verbal offer, or notification that they're going to send me an offer, but I don't want to leave any money on the table

Many companies will base their offer on your stated salary requirements. It’s a game. So yes - I’d still negotiate 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Ynotjenn you might misread my question. Their offer is going to be more than what my salary expectations were, because they told me after they asked. So even though its more than what I said I was expecting (but they haven't told me the amount yet) can I negotiate for more?

@MntoNc Yeah - I got that part. But because you lowballed yourself - they might just have offered your right above your asking salary to reel you in…

Whereas had your asking salary been more…they may have gone right above that as well.

It’s all games and they’ll pay you what you allow them to pay you

@Ynotjenn how old are you and have you worked in hr?

@MntoNc In my 40s and have been in management most of my life 🤷🏻‍♀️

Offers can always be negotiated

@Ynotjenn can you template out what i should say once they come with an offer? Should I say something like "upon reflection and further research, I see there are similar companies offering x, is there wiggle room for a few thousand more"? Idk something like that!
Ynotjenn · F
@MntoNc I think that's perfect actually. All they can do is say no 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Ynotjenn do you think they would rescind the offer though based on that?

@MntoNc not generally…no. Companies typically expect you to push for more. But of course anything could happen
