Life is testing my patience

I'm NOT really a patient person after all. I'm having to listen to contractor negotiations, and translations with my mom, and I really don't like it. It's part of the culture to negotiate. But I don't like it. This is one of those LIFE things. And age gap things. I prefer flat pricing. No negotiations. My mom's era and culture is all about negotiating. There's nothing wrong with it. I just don't enjoy it.

It doesnt come naturally in a lot of western cultures. But I confess that with a little practice I learned to enjoy a good barter while travelling and even threw in the occasional "You are stealing the bread from the mouths of my children"much to the surprise and delight of a local jewellery shop salesman in the middle east.. We both enjoyed the transaction.. And I still ask "Änd whats the cash price" when making a big purchase here.😷.

@whowasthatmaskedman my Dad always used to expect a different price by asking that question....to this day I have trouble understanding that question. I'm guessing people use to make payment plans more often? Buyers were riskier customers back then? Voila...the credit card solved that issue between buyer and seller.

@Mindful Quite so.. Of course, the dynamic has shifted. Go to buy a big ticket item today and it is likely that the store will make more from selling you the payment plan than they will from the sale of the item. Right now I am seeing adds on TV for new cars, offering not only thousands off the sticker price, but "Deposit support" of three to five thousand, if you use the recommended finance company. This all harks back to General Electric, who made appliances and sold them on its own credit plan. In the end, then made way more from the finance, than the appliances.😷

@BrandNewMan so you like negotiating or is this sarcasm?

@Mindful Lol .. sarcasm .. that life seems to be enjoying testing me of late.

That said, contract negotiation was part of my job responsibilities the last 25 yrs of my career.

@BrandNewMan once upon a time I wanted to be a mediator!!! I've always wanted to help people settle their disputes. Maybe it's a good thing I didn't go for it. I think now that may have been a health hazard. Well at least with family, I struggle, and it's not enjoyable. When they want my opinion, I ultimately say, "it's your call"
