After not working and being a stay at home mom for like 26 years, my mom is starting a business!
The last time my mom did work or school, she was pregnant with me. She dropped out of college before I was born. However…
Some years before she had me she did complete an interior design school program. Not sure what the specific certification is, but she’s got it. So with her special training and natural eye for color, she’s starting her own home decor and design consulting business!
I’m really stoked for her, I know for many years she’s been entertaining the idea of finding some kind of career for herself, but raising me and my brother (now 18) has alway come first, and we were not easy kids. Both of us had a lot of psychological issues growing up, and staying on top of our doctor and therapy appointments, managing our IEPs, making sure we didn’t fall behind in school, etc. was a full time job.
But now that me and him are both adults and she has a bit of room to breathe and do her own thing, I think she’s wanting to do something a bit more fulfilling than just cleaning the house, reading and watching TV all day.
She came up with a list of potential business names, the one I told her I liked the best was
[her name][b]’s Cozy Home Consulting[/b]
Whenever people come over to our house for the first time they always compliment how inviting our house feels. Our house has always had this great balance between looking nice and well put together but also lived-in. She’s also helped a number of her friends remodel parts of their houses and did a great job with all of them.
This one friend she has, Gene, my mom helped her remodel her bathroom not that long ago. My mom picked out this one really nice flooring and basically picked all the other things with the floor design in mind. Gene told my mom that she would have never picked out that specific flooring herself, but now she gets a shit ton of compliments on the bathroom and specifically on the flooring and how it pulls everything together.
As soon as my mom gets her business license she’s gonna start an Instagram for the business, which I’ll prob end up helping her with. Oh! And since my bf has been doing a website design bootcamp, he said if/when my mom wants an actual website, he’ll make her whole website at a small fraction of the normal cost in exchange for a reference!
