SEPTEMBER BIRDS

As I write this, I am beside an open window with the wind coming straight from the Firth of Tay. In the distance I can hear seabirds calling, slightly harsh but undoubtedly evocative. Nearer to hand, a host of sparrows are chattering, with some other, unidentified, bird on a tree below our flat.
Without birds, the world would be a much poorer place.

@Slymbo The sounds of nature are beautiful. In my opinion, nothing human-made can match them. My husband, being a barbarian, prefers the sound of a powerful engine!

@helensusanswift It's spring here and every morning as the sun rises I can hear what sounds like a dozen different bird species heralding the dawn. It is absolutely beautiful. Much better than an engine haha.

@Slymbo Early autumn here, or late summer. The harvests are being gathered, the trees beginning to turn and the air has a wee bite to it.

@helensusanswift You are in a magic part of the world. I love it there.

@Slymbo Aye, we're no bad. Where are you?
Slymbo · 61-69, M
@helensusanswift Perth. Not your Perth - the other Perth in Western Australia.
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@Slymbo The other Perth, eh? The bigger one! And sunnier.

@helensusanswift Named after the original!
Slymbo · 61-69, M
@helensusanswift Actually I lived in Berwickshire for a wee while.

@Slymbo I think it was a Scotsman that founded your Perth in 1829, if I remember correctly? The man Stirling, I think?
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@Slymbo Down by the Merse? Whereabouts in Berwickshire? I know Coldstream and Kelso down thataway.
Slymbo · 61-69, M
@helensusanswift Not far from either. I was in Greenlaw.

@Slymbo I've only been there once - if I recall there was an old Border tower, which had a large birds nest in a window high up.

@helensusanswift I can't remember to be honest. So long ago now. But we lived on a farm where the laird kept pheasants. Amazing place.
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@Slymbo Did you emigrate to Australia, then?
Slymbo · 61-69, M
@helensusanswift Yes, back in 1970 but went back to Scotland in 1979 after I finished school.
helensusanswift · 26-30, F
@Slymbo You've been around, then! I must go now - have to work! Good talking to you!
Slymbo · 61-69, M
@helensusanswift And you. Have a great day!
