Another morning as life is now

Today I caught my dad (89) trying to repair a broken hedgecutter in his shed. He'd tried to cut his hedge yesterday evening. I worked the whole day so I thought that I could trust him just to sit tight. Wanted to go and see a movie which I hadn't for months. Well, today I got the backlash.

Dad had been up till late trying to fix it. Luckily a nurse comes each morning and he had to sleep some too. I don't know how much he slept, and there's no point asking him because he can't remember. I told him that I'll buy him a new one on Tuesday. He needed to get inside. It's cold and it's raining.

Sad how a loved one can decline. I try to look in atleast once a day, and today I'm going back in the evening. I need to check also on a pigeon chick that I've relocated with another male pigeon. I had two chicks ringed. My first. The rats took one already. Maddening. Needed to get it out of that particular pigeon cot fast.

So there are my problems to start the week with. I took a second pill and I'm hoping for the best. Anyone got any advice on getting rid of a whole nest of rats?

If you are going to kill them, they have bait that, once they eat it and drink, bye-bye. Relocation? I suggest a big live trap.

I know you are, but be patient with your Dad. I worked with the elderly. They want to feel useful still. Find an easy-to-use hedge trimmer, but be careful how you tell him. Trust me, older guys get pissed if they feel you are babying them. Even when it's in a loving manner.

You sure have your hands full with your father. If you want to get him new clippers. Might I suggest cordless ones. The only thing I can think of for those rat are traps.

@Degbeme I've already gotten a good rat trap. Will buy more. Found the location of their nest too. I'll block the entrance. It's a struggle. Hope the chick will survive.

@val70 I hope it survives too. Damn rats will eat anything.
