If you find a struggling overheated bird, don’t give it water.

During a terribly loooong oppressive heatwave in our area, a friend of mine found a little sparrow on the road unable to fly not injured but panting and suffering. She learned too late that giving it some water can be fatal even if it’s not a lot.

I’m no expert but I read that you should bring it to shade and call a wildlife rehabilitation organization in your area if it doesn’t fly off within about 30 min. Maybe sharing this lesson will help animal lovers save other birds in extreme heat.

Wait, why is giving water not good?
@uncalled4 I know. It seems common sense to give water. I read that you shouldn’t feed it or make it drink bc it can go into their lungs and I think that’s what happened in my friends case. They can aspirate on it. You can make water available but don’t drop it in their beaks.

@DoubleRings Okay. That seems more logical.
