This Mockingbird in My Front Yard Tree Has Been Singing His Heart Out For Over An Hour….

I don’t want to disturb him by opening the front door but need to go get groceries.

Obviously he wasn't having any luck anyway!

So disturbe him. He might even thank you much later when he does find what he wants... Elsewhere! 😁

@DeWayfarer He’s just hanging out while the girls are sitting on the nests. The males are guarding the neighborhood. When cats come around they’ll watch and make them leave.

@cherokeepatti ever notice the different sounds they make?

There's a different sound when they are angry at something and they usually are silent when they are just watching.

Purpose drives them just as much as it does with people.

If they are guarding there's no purpose to make any sounds. I watch the hawks do the same thing. Then turn around when the intruder goes away far enough.

This tactic is also used though by other sneaky birds like crows.

Crows work in groups, so while a hawk is attacking one crow the other invades the hawks nest. If a female is there she will attack it yet there's a third one in waiting.

Very sneaky. Yet hacks watch silently for this reason. Just so they won't gang up on them. Now things on the ground is different. A hawk will let you know your too close with a angry cry.

@DeWayfarer Mockingbirds make a growling sound when someone is too close to their babies or their nest. I picked up a hopping baby mockingbird after it and another one left the nest. They were running back and forth by my fence. The other popped into the hole at the bottom of the fence and went to the other yard so I put the one I caught into the hole to be with the other one. Started to walk away and saw the parents o the fence watching me. They never growled at me and only watched, which seemed unreal. A few days later they started growling at and threatened someone else just for walking near the fence and the babies weren’t on the ground. I was amused. I think the mockingbirds knew I was bird friendly, they would come and visit my parakeets on the deck and listen to them talk and sing.
