If someone calls Native American spirituality superstitious, is the person racist and bigoted or ignorant towards indigenous cultures?

The term "superstitious" can be offensive and can come off as insensitive and ignorant.

I know very little about it, would love to know more, but am a bit wary of new age band wagons.
How do you know if someone is offering the real thing?
And is it sacred knowledge that was traditionally permitted only to those who earned it?
