The Dangers of Seeking the Supernatural

The Lord warns about putting yourself in this position:

"Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God." – Leviticus 19:31

"But the spirit said to the seven sons of Sceva (a High Priest)....'Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are you?' Then the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. They fled the house naked and wounded." – Acts 19:14-16

In another scripture passage,"When Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord did not answer him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets. Then Saul said to his servants, 'Seek me a woman who is a medium, that I may inquire of her.'" – 1 Samuel 28:6-7

You might be curious about the unseen or tempted to seek guidance from sources outside of God. Perhaps it seems harmless, or even exciting, to try Ouija boards, spirit communication, or other ways of “connecting” with the supernatural. But the Bible warns you clearly: seeking knowledge or direction outside of God’s authority is dangerous, and you'll see why in a minute.

The stories of the seven sons of Sceva and King Saul are vivid examples. The sons of Sceva tried to invoke spirits in Jesus’ name, for their own gain, mocking the spiritual world, and they were overpowered and harmed by the very forces they thought they could control.

Saul, in desperation, turned to a medium instead of God, and it led to judgment and tragedy. These warnings are not God being mean—they are God protecting you. When you step outside His authority, you expose yourself to harm, deception, and confusion, as well as the wrong kind of spirit...evil spirits! God wants to guide you safely, not to deny you answers. His wisdom and power are far greater than anything you could try to summon on your own.

Lord, help each of us to stay away from things we were not meant to seek. Teach us to trust Your guidance alone, to walk in Your light, and to avoid dabbling in the spiritual things that are not from You. Protect us from harm that comes from experimenting with the supernatural, and give us wisdom and discernment to rely fully on You.

The supernatural is real, but God is greater than it. Your connection to Him is safe, full, and sufficient. Curiosity is natural, but obedience and trust in God will protect you far more than experimentation ever could. Seek Him first, and you will find the direction, insight, and peace that no other source can give.

King Saul also reminds us of the cost of turning to the occult. In his desperation, he sought guidance from a "medium" rather than God, which led to judgment and ultimate tragedy. This wasn’t punishment for curiosity—it was a warning about seeking knowledge or power outside of God’s authority.

The supernatural is real, but God is supreme over it. Rather than experimenting with spirit boards or mediums, our connection with the divine comes safely and fully through Jesus Christ. Curiosity is natural, but obedience and trust in God, protects us far more than experimentation ever could.

This post is absolutely necessary today. From my interaction with high school students, I find that more and more of them are turning to this type of thing simply for entertainment, and not knowing what dangers lie within.
@IM5688 Exactly. So many of these days are. I see them here at this site as well. I don't think they really understand what they're delving in, here.

God want us to seek faith in him and know his heart as he knows ours.

Supernatural spirit is nothing more than a distraction including this world.
