H.P. Lovecraft stuff.

If anyone knows the work of H.P. Lovecraft, I've heard that a lot of his stories were given to him by real life monsters and supernatural spirits. The gods and creatures in his works were sent to him spiritually and are actually real.

I can't say I believe it - but it still could make for an interesting topic. If what is real and what is not is all based on who believes it, could a story like this actually happen?

No.

If so-called "supernatural" beings really exist they'd not be supernatural. The rewilding types would be filling old stately homes with them!

Lovecraft simply had a good imagination and knew how to write frightening works of fiction - but also note SumKindaMunsta's reference to him thought to have been inspired by many instances of sleep-paralysis accompanied by horrible visions.

I don't know if that is correct but it is certainly is plausible, because such incidents are not very rare and likely formed the basis for many "ghost" stories and supposedly religious "visions".

I have had occasional "falling" sensations and been frightened by hypnagogic hallucinations - but we now know these have nothing whatever to do with any supposed "supernature". They are just very brief nightmares.
