Have you guys heard of the desert ghoul? 🧞

In the Arabian folkloric sense?

It is considered a mythical creature that appears and disappears suddenly at night in the desert and dark isolated places.

It looks like a moving flame 🔥and believed to be a form of demon/jinn that leads people astray in the darkness to get them lost.

There are many sightings and stories of these strange lights since the ancient times.

They look like this:

Some people try to take a more scientific approach and say they are insects that reflect lights but nobody knows for sure. Many times they appear in absolute total darkness without any light source. Also they can be big. Like a ball of fire.

I don’t believe or disbelieve them but I find them intriguing for sure. Lol

Any similar stuff from your culture?

We have mystery light phenomena such as swamp lights , which are attributed to spontaneous combustion of methane gas in swampy areas and there are places such as the Brown Mountain lights in North Carolina where people have been seeing mysterious lights in the hills for decades.
Some think that they are ghost or Indian spirits and others think that they are UFOs !! 😝
I’m sure there are places all over the world where mysterious lights have caused speculation and intrigue for centuries

The methane theory makes since. I’m all for science. Makes life much easier lol. At the same time I do believe that supernatural things happen @Onestarlitnight

It occurs to me that in a dry desert environment you might get static discharge from blowing sand.
Sand storms can include lightning flashes from static electricity buildup.

Maybe these lights are the result of the same phenomenon.
Static electricity builds up until it reaches a point where it can be discharged.
Maybe off in the distance some poor insect touches a ground point and gets fried for a few seconds!! 😆

Whoa. That’s a convincing explanation indeed. I’m impressed 👏🏽
I think I’m going to quote you here with your permission whenever I hear someone discusses desert ghouls lol @Onestarlitnight
