I saw an unusual 'star' once.

I often sit outside at night and just spend quiet time, looking at the sky.

One night ...i my gaze jist kept coming back to a particular lone star, (i didn't know why...it just seemed 'odd' for some reason)

And after a while, my gaze came nack to this star again, and it moved!...vertically, and then stopped .

I kidded myself that it was my tired eyes. Then...it got brighter , but stayed in one spot - now i was focused on it.
Then, it started to move again, directly upwards - not with , or against the turn of the earth , but directly outwards, at a cross angle to the milky way (N, NE direction)
As i watched it steadily move , it suddently sped up, faded and was gone.

To this day ....i dont know what it was.
I googled space stations and junk, asteroids and any possible local phenomena: notjing for a week .

It woild have faded to memory , if it wasnt for the speed and brightness changes that were intermittent.

Plus the very odd feeling tjat made me look at it long before any of that happened .

Just ....odd.

@OogieBoogie i saw a similar star one night. In about 3 seconds it suddenly got brighter then just faded into nothing without moving anywhere
@LandOfOz interesting .

ive watched the sky a lot over my years.

Seen satellites move across the sky , seen tiny asteroids burn up.

This was nothing lik anything else ive ever seen ....so defined in its movement, so deliberate...its been imprinted on my mind forever .

@OogieBoogie what about a comet?
Flying over you for a while then at some point its flying towards you so it looks as if not moving

and then it again continues to fly out of your point of view and finally burning?
@VampireOfDesire comets have a certain look, ma7be a slight blur of a tail ....and they move way way slower.
(In fact some comets may take a few days or even weeks to pass, depending upon diatance)...and they dont abruptly stop or change direction.

15 years later, and its still just as clear in my memory as that night .

Nothing truly stunning or dramatic about the experience....but strange in such a curious way .

NEVER have i seen anything else remotely like it .
@VampireOfDesire plus ...when i say 'it became bright', it got BRIGHT! - like Sirius (the brightest star in the sky)
Even satelites can be hard to find, they are so dim they blend into the mass of stars .
