Takes for instance earth is round or orbiting the sun. It wasn't the church. Doctors and leaders didn't know this and understand it.
People wanted them to make church doctorial statements on it.And they weren't ready to do that. If you look at some of the greatest scientists and discoverers of modern time, many of them were jesuit monks.
