Sometimes it seems like it, what if we were, doomed.
I think it's more like a prison planet or jail, undergoing judgment and waiting for sentencing.
Without the elements of the earth we wouldn't survive off this planet. And they talk about terraforming the moon or Mars, seriously doubt if that will ever happen. And even if it did without the elements of the Earth we wouldn't survive.
