I read that this means the entity wants your attention... I once watched a video of a paranormal investigator who's house was haunted by similar kinds of things: running up and down the stairs, slamming doors, dropping a picture frame off the cabinet. Many people thought it was a demonic entity but more likely this was just a lonely fella who just tried to draw the person's attention. They do this because they either want company or answers (for example when they died in a tragic way, they wanna know what happened to them, cause at first they don't realize they're dead but when they do, they freak out and get confused).
