From the Cross: The Depth of His Love and Sacrifice

From the cross, Jesus looked upon the world He had come to save. Every nail, every lash, every piercing moment of agony carried the weight of a love beyond human comprehension. His eyes were not on His own suffering, but on the souls He had come to redeem, the lives He had come to rescue, the hearts He longed to embrace. In the midst of unbearable pain and the weight of spiritual separation from the Father, His thoughts were not on Himself, but on mercy, forgiveness, and finishing the very mission that brought Him from heaven.

His Love for the Lost

Even as the crowd mocked Him and soldiers drove nails through His flesh, Jesus’ heart reached out. “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” (Luke 23:34). He saw the spiritually blind, the enemies, the indifferent—yet He loved them, prioritizing their salvation over His own torment. Beside Him, a thief recognized the truth of who He was, and Jesus promised, “Today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). Even in His final hours, His purpose was to save the lost.

His Care for His Loved Ones

Amidst the chaos, He looked down at His mother, Mary, and the disciple John. He entrusted her care to John, saying, “Woman, here is your son” (John 19:26). Even while carrying the sin of the world, His heart remained tender toward those He loved. Every heartbeat radiated compassion, a reminder that His love was all-encompassing, never distracted by His own suffering.

The Spiritual Weight of the Cross

From noon until three in the afternoon, darkness fell over the land. During these final three hours of His crucifixion, Jesus bore the full weight of humanity’s sin. The spiritual agony was unparalleled: “My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46). This was not a cry of doubt, but the deep, felt reality of taking upon Himself the separation from God that our sin demanded. The very earth seemed to respond, trembling as the divine burden of redemption unfolded.

Triumph and Completion

At last, with His mission fulfilled, Jesus declared, “It is finished!” (John 19:30)—a triumphant statement that the debt of sin had been fully paid. Then, surrendering His spirit to the Father, He cried, “Father, into Your hands I commit my spirit” (Luke 23:46). Earth itself even reacted. The temple curtain tore, the earth shook, and redemption for humanity was accomplished. His suffering, love, and sacrifice had reached its divine completion.

A Reflection on His Love

Could you have endured the same? Could you have loved like this, giving everything for people who had done nothing but mock, harm, and reject you? Yet He did—for you. He gave everything, even pleading for forgiveness for those who crucified Him. He suffered, bled, and died so that we could find life, hope, and a way to the Father.

He gave His very best—how could we give Him less?

The Lord is risen indeed! Hallelujah!
The Lord is risen indeed! Hallelujah!
Now is Christ risen from the dead
And become the first fruits of them that slept!

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!

And did he rise? And did he rise? Did he rise?
Hear, all ye nations, hear it all ye dead!
He rose, he rose, he rose, he rose
He burst the bars of death
He burst the bars of death
He burst the bars of death
And triumphed o'er the grave!

Shout, shout, Earth and Heav’n!
This sum of good to man:
Whose nature then took wing
Whose nature then took wing
Whose nature then took wing
And mounted with Him from the tomb
And mounted with Him from the tomb!

Then, then, then I rose
Then I rose, then I rose
Then first humanity triumphant
Passed the crystal ports of light
And seized eternal youth.

Men all immortal hail, hail,
Heaven all lavish of strange gifts to man
Thine all the glory, man's the boundless bliss!
