Why we need Jesus: Our spirits are dead to the things of God (Romans 8:8).

"In the past, you were spiritually dead because of your sins." Ephesians 2:1

Every human being in the world exists in one of two categories: spiritually dead or spiritually alive. Religion can not make a dead man live. Good works, effort, and tradition may look like life to other spiritually "dead" people, but they have no spiritual power to transform from the inside out. No religious affiliation ever died for our sins. Christ paid the highest price to redeem us from the clutches of Satan. Sin destroys; Jesus brings our spirit to life. We were all dead in our trespasses and sins, but we can be made alive through the blood of Jesus Christ our Lord (1 Peter 1:2; Ephesians 2:13).

The Bible says, before we surrender to the Holy Spirit’s urging, our spirits are dead to the things of God (Romans 8:8). We have no good within ourselves and no desire to submit to our Creator. We are dead spiritually and have no way to make ourselves alive. Just as a corpse cannot do anything to help himself, so we cannot save ourselves or make a move to cleanse our sins. We cannot even produce the desire to obey God. We were dead because of our sin. Dead people need a life-giver. John 1:4 says of Jesus, “In him was life, and the life was the light of men.”

The life Jesus gives is not merely eternal life in heaven (John 3:36;14:2; Titus 3:7) but spiritual life on earth that empowers us to live out the purpose for which He created us. Our dead spirits can be compared to a deflated balloon inside our souls. We are scarcely aware of its presence as we live for ourselves, under the command of sin (2 Peter 2:19; Romans 6:16). When we respond to the Holy Spirit’s calling (John 6:44), we repent of our sin and exercise faith in the Lord Jesus (1 Corinthians 12:3). God forgives our sin, crediting us with the righteousness of Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21), and sends the Holy Spirit to live inside us. The Greek word for “spirit” is pneuma, which means “breath” or “wind.” At the moment of conversion, the breath of God fills that deflated balloon, and our dead spirits come alive. God's Holy Spirit goes to work, transforming us from lifeless, sin-filled corpses to vibrant, living children of God (2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:5; John 1:12).

Until I reveal myself to you, you do not know me. You will never know me, until you read about me, hear of me, or see me. That's just a given.

Scripture says we cannot know the divine, until the divine comes to us. God sends his Holy Spirit to speak to our hearts and lives and invites us to accept Jesus as our personal Savior. The Holy Spirit's role is to convict people of their sins, so they know to repent and ask Jesus to forgive them, which he readily does. He turns no one away.

God's Word helps us become familiar with him and know his ways. Ministers are also instruments of God and the Holy Spirit speaks to them, giving them what to say, so people can come to know Christ, and why they need Jesus as their Savior. He tells you rightly. People just don't automatically know this and they do not automatically have the Holy Spirit inside, until they repent of their sins and have Jesus forgive them. It's in the bible. There's no such thing as the Holy Spirit indwelling a vessel that is unclean before the Lord. Jesus sent out his disciples in the world and told them to tell people the good news of Salvation through Jesus Christ. This is important, and that's what believers today are called to do. Jesus said, "How will they know unless they are told?"

Our conscience is a gift from God, serving as an internal moral compass that reflects His higher standard of justice and goodness, guiding us to discern right from wrong and navigate life in accordance with His will. While general revelation points to a "higher power," it is insufficient for a personal or saving relationship with God.

I do not listen to man. His reasoning in itself and by itself, is flawed. Therefore, I listen to God, who is sinless, and I know He will not lead me astray, in any way.

Many people have many ideas on how to get to heaven, but Jesus said there's only one way to heaven. He said that...not me. I follow him and what he says in His Word. Jesus said if you listen to any other voice but His, they will lead you not only astray, but away from God and eternal life. They definitely will. And those who followed Christ, knew his voice, so they were able to tell others how to get to heaven. But one must be careful whom they listen to, because some people think they're safe, but they're not. They have not done as God has asked them to do nor followed his instruction.

God said in His Word, that he specifically gave us His word, so that we would know exactly how to get to heaven, and not have to guess. It is no ordinary book. Scripture tells us it is divinely written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, not entrusted to just any person, but given to holy men of old under the direction of the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:21

The destination of our soul is definitely not something we want to guess about and where it's going to spend eternity. That's something we definitely need to get right, according to God's word. We can be stubborn about it and go our own way, certainly, but the Bible says that won't work. Contrary to belief, not all ways lead to Christ. There's a way that seems right unto man, but the end thereof is death. Both physical and spiritual death...Proverbs 14:12.

God is telling us here, don't listen to every person who comes along claiming to know Christ, as they may be following a path that they think is right, but according to God, is contrary to His Word. Each person has to decide whether they're going to follow Christ or someone else. Christ is no liar, so that's why I trust him alone. If I thought for a second he was a liar, I definitely would not have followed him for a whole 52 years! I came to know him by the Holy Spirit convicting my heart of sin and then giving my heart and life to Jesus as my personal Savior. He is definitely trustworthy.

This subject is a bit complicated but you explained it in a very nice manner. The example of deflated balloon is for real. Few people just want outward happiness and they are just empty inside. I pray to God to fill our heart with his words.

Thank you Grace for this beautiful post, it working as a nice reminder as well as making people understand the core concept in flawless words. I like to start my days with your lessons.
@DanielsASJ
Excellent in your understanding of God's word. We can never go wrong with God's lessons and guidance through His words, that's for sure. These are not my philosophies above, that I have written in my post, but as you know, beliefs taken from Christ himself, according to His Word.

Yes they are empty inside, until they are filled with the Holy Spirit given from God, upon inviting Jesus into their hearts and lives as Savior.

God gave me a brain and told me not to think. Got it.
@MoveAlong God told you not to think? Better think that one over again. He gave you a brain, as you say, so you could read His Word and not have to guess where you'll spend eternity. He tells us that in his word. 1st John 5:13. However, that's up to you.
