"The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saves such as be of a contrite spirit." Psalm 34:18
This verse offers comfort, by assuring that God is close to those who are hurting and that He saves those with a humble and repentant heart.
It assures us that God is intimately present with those who are suffering from deep emotional pain, often called a "broken heart". He is there for the traumatized. I can vouch for that. He gives me strength each day. Even on those days, when I'm not particularly feeling I have the strength, He gets me through in a big way... and not by just "barely pushing through".
God Provides Salvation
He not only stays close, but also has the power to save and deliver those who feel crushed or broken in spirit.
The phrase "contrite spirit" refers to a humble and sincere heart, acknowledging one's own need for God's help. It is a call to a genuine, heartfelt plea for divine intervention.
It's a promise of hope, for those experiencing loss, betrayal, and other forms of pain, reminding them that God understands and is there to provide peace and strength. The Bible states that God hears both audible and silent prayers, and even understands when we cannot find the right words.
When you don't know how to pray, the Bible states that the Holy Spirit intercedes for you with "groanings too deep for words" to help you in your weakness, according to Romans 8:26-27. This means the Spirit communicates your needs to God in a way that is perfectly in line with God's will, even when you don't have the words or understanding to do so yourself. What a beautiful promise, that the Holy Spirit acts as an advocate, taking your unspoken feelings and concerns, and express them to God.
Thank you, Lord, for hearing our prayers, when we don't have the words to communicate our pain. Thank you for your help and great comfort. Amen.
It's a gift to know that God has made this provision for you, so that the effectiveness of your prayers doesn't depend on your own ability to find the right words.

Thank you Grace for this beautiful post. It came at the exact moment when I was feeling like I don't know what or how to pray but thank you for this post to let me know that God knows what is inside my hear already and that my prayers will be communicated to God even in silence.
