It is far wiser to prepare your soul in advance for eternity, than to wait till the last minute, only to find God's timing came before yours.
The same Jesus, who died for our sins, rose from the dead, and gifted us salvation by His saving grace, is the same one who wants to spend eternity with us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
To have everlasting life with Christ, we must prepare our souls for His coming, and where we wish to spend eternity. And just as all the other prophecies He spoke of, were fulfilled, this is no different. Jesus is coming, and no one knows the day, but The Father (Matthew 24:36). Therefore, it is wise for us to prepare in advance, than to think we can wait till the very last minute. That's like playing Russian roulette with your own soul... leave your soul to chance, and you'll never win.
We can learn valuable lessons about hard work, planning, and teamwork from the industriousness and foresight of the ant, as highlighted in Proverbs 6:6-8; that even seemingly insignificant creatures can offer valuable lessons about diligence and preparation:
"Go to the ant, you sluggered; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest."
None of us have the assurance of tomorrow, as we do not know what a day may bring forth, but even the ant is smarter than some people, as it makes preparation for winter, to save its own life. The Bible teaches that we should be like ants in our diligence, preparing for the future and not waste time nor opportunities. Ants demonstrate a remarkable ability to work hard and prepare for the future. We should be so smart!
Ants know we exist, though they cannot comprehend us. How much more, God loves us, that He revealed His Son to us, to ensure we could have forgiveness of our sins and salvation through Him; that if we will but trust Him, we shall spend eternity in the right place... heaven!
"For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him, might be saved.” John 3:17
I love how David invited the Lord to “Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting." Psalms 139:23-24. This should be our prayer, as we seek God to reveal character flaws that we cannot see.
Jesus Calls Us to Repentance
If we love God, we will want to turn away from, or what the Bible describes as "die to", our fleshly desires. That is, we will desire to turn away from our sins and choose Christ. This is our declaration of love towards God...that we desire to live according to his Word. To gain a better perspective on repentance, we must look at it through a different lens. A lens of love and not of lack. Jesus never takes anything away from us, but gifts us with eternal life. Satan is very good at leading us astray, by tempting us to give in to his sinful suggestions/temptations.
“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
“And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6:40
Have you prepared your soul for eternity and where you will spend it? Jesus said now is the day of salvation... not put it off till tomorrow. He didn't say that, to be bossy or to scare people. He said it because He wants to make sure that every one of us spend eternity in heaven. He is not willing that any should perish, but have everlasting life with him. Everlasting life in heaven, is really something we cannot afford to miss or gamble our own soul away, by indecision. Satan would have you believe we cease to completely exist or we are reincarnated, however Scripture is clear that there are no second chances, once we cross over to Eternity. It is best to listen to God who knows all things:
"It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." Hebrews 9:27
Satan knows that man is not constantly re-born, or vanishes into nothingness. The Bible is very clear that all experience a single permanent death. Once this happens, each person is accountable for their actions in life, before God. He did not gift us this life for us to gamble with our own soul's final destination.
The phrase "For what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his own soul?" is a question from Jesus, found in Mark 8:36 and Matthew 16:26, emphasizing that earthly possessions and achievements are meaningless, if they come at the cost of spiritual well-being and loss of eternal life in heaven.
