Jesus is My Savior - Not my religion - We are not saved by works.
I know some won't believe this, or maybe they were taught differently, but that's okay. We can discuss, but let's not argue over scripture. The Lord does love it when we study scripture and reason together, but in love and peace. I made a mistake today, before I even thought, so I asked the Lord to forgive me and also apologized to the person. We both agreed we were both at fault and asked each other for forgiveness. That was so great. I do love this person.
The Bible says that works only count after salvation, because salvation is a gift from God, not something that can be earned through good works.
Religion didn't die on the cross for my sins. Jesus did. Religion is described as man-made philosophy. While Jesus came into the world to save all from the condemnation that sin placed on us. It is the work of Jesus on the cross, that paid for our sins, that whosoever comes to him for salvation, shall never be turned away.
Salvation by works is the belief that a person's good deeds are enough to earn their place in heaven. It's based on the idea that people are worthy of being accepted into heaven based on their own merit.
Examples of salvation by works not taught by Jesus:
Obeying the 10 commandments
Giving to charity
Being a good citizen
Raising a family
Reading the Bible and praying
Attending church
Being baptized
Receiving communion
Performing rituals like confession, confirmation, and beads.
Why people believe in salvation by works:
It appeals to people's desire to be in control of their own destiny
It appeals to people's sense of justice
It seems right to people.
Jesus taught that salvation is by grace, through faith alone, not by works.
No good work can qualify a person for heaven, because God it's not looking for perfection. He's just wanting to love you and save your soul.
