Another way of approaching the same question is to ask why does the left love Islamists. Fanatical loyalty to religion, subjugation of women, proscription of homosexuality - all things the left would deplore in any other context. Perhaps some left wingers here would like to offer an answer?

@MartinII The enemy of my enemy is my friend, I believe.

@helenS They would have loved Nasser (who started the 1967 War).

@Fukfacewillie 1967 was the turning point, as fas as I know. The European left was pro-Israel until the six-day war.

@Fukfacewillie But he was left-wing, economically anyway, unlike today's Islamists.

@helenS Which is amazing when you think about it. Some historical revisionism to be sure about 1948-1967.

@BohoBabe Rally-goers in many Western cities are exhorted to “celebrate the resistance’s success,” to “express their support for the heroic Palestinian resistance,” to “confront the U.S.-led imperialist system, including the EU states, Britain, Canada and all complicit powers to end their crimes against the Palestinian people,” and to “defend the resistance” and “uplift and honour our resistance and martyrs.”

@MartinII Leftism is democratic and anti-capitalist. Corbyn is very much a Capitalist.
While I wouldn't have used that word, this was taken out of context.

Corbyn was basically doing what all good politicians do, he was reaching out to horrible people in order to alleviate suffering. It's like when Bill Clinton went to North Korea to free American prisoners. He had to treat Kim Jong-il like a human being, but whatever, it was worth it.
He even referred to "our friends in Hamas".

They're not targeting Hamas, they're targeting civilians. Remember when three shirtless Israelis, one of them holding a white flag, were shot by the IDF? This is how the IDF operates. Anyone believed to be a Palestinian gets killed. That's why the civilian death count has been so high, that's why Israeli politicians are saying there are no innocent Palestinians.
Therefore, Israel's actions against Hamas in Gaza are not genocide
