Baruch Spinoza quote

A great quote:
[quote]By God, I mean a being absolutely infinite—that is, a substance consisting in infinite attributes, of which each one expresses eternal and infinite essence

Very close to the "emptiness" of the Dharma. Being "empty (of itself)" it can be all things. Or, being "selfless" we can be with all.

"Substance" or "emptiness".....what is in a name, or a word?

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit." (St John's Gospel)

Spinoza is a philospher and writer who too easily gets ignored these days. Did you know that he's actually at the basis of materialism?

@val70 I would say he is closer to natural theology

Spinoza's most famous and provocative idea is that God is not the creator of the world, but that the world is part of God. As understood by Spinoza, God is the one infinite substance who possesses an infinite number of attributes each expressing an eternal aspect of his/her nature
