PSA: A new one on me

Apparently scammers (at best) are making contact with citizens, making job offers and doing interviews on the phone. Then they record the citizen’s voice and use AI to call partners or parents or whatever to demand money or going to the citizen’s address and call someone inside using the citizen’s voice to get them to open the door.

Keep an eye out. Or an ear.

Our world is in trouble
@Mindful Yes. Yes it is.

Scammers? They asked for personal abuse.

Seriously, please lock your credit. That can be done for free through the three credit bureaux.
@Crazywaterspring Thank you. Already done. My need for credit has passed anyway. But I don’t want any sticky fingers using it.
yeah, i had some of that today. i hope they get warts on their ass and a flat tire.
@ReptilianFromPlanetCrush I thought I was gentle. I’d like to see them successfully steal a huge stack of money from some rich guy who stole it himself. That’s guaranteed to attract law enforcement’s attention and a heavy sentence.
I've learned to question anything out of character for the people I know.
It’s horrible just how despicably clever these scammers are. I’ve heard that you shouldn’t utter even a single word because they can take a simple “yes” or “no” and use it to do things like take out credit cards in your name, make purchases and ruin your credit. Which can take years to untangle and repair.
@OlderSometimesWiser Darkly funny that technology is always touted as a marvel. But, technology gave us cell phones and now we’re afraid to answer them.

I haven't heard of this happening yet but it doesn't surprise me. Sometimes I feel like technology just does more harm than good.

@Mamapolo2016 this is so true! It's just the newest trick scammers have come up with. For all the good AI can do, it opens up the door to just as much bad.
@Smootrudiger But we rarely fail to embrace it.

@Mamapolo2016 I wish we did as a society. Maybe things wouldn't be as bad as they are. But I've always said, it has to get worse before it gets better.
