Some of this I agree with. Yet the motivations behind what Pope Leo said really are understated by a long shot.

The purpose of the Catholic Church was always to get more followers. And I have seen in today's AI a push for the majority opinions. Isn't it ironic that the Catholic Church just happens to be a world wide religion?

This I suspect is the real reasoning for want of control of AI. Especially by the Catholic Church.

Yes there's a need for control over AI, yet who is to guide that AI in what direction?

To allow religion to control that direction is almost as dangerous as AI being uncontroled.

Yes humanity needs to be in the equation of AI. Yet not for the sake of religion, which is the direction that it is currently taking.

He does not want to put the Church in control of AI. He's asking that we not let this thing operate on its own, and turn into a agent of positive good in the world, as opposed to a tool to concentrate more wealth with a handful of people, or give government the power to end life, based on an algorithm.

What makes the Pope's message really interesting, is that one of the people who sat in the audience, is the co-founder of Anthropic. Anthropic is the company that refused to allow DUI Hegseth to use its software in freestyle mode.

I don't take the Catholic Church as being stupid, like Trump. There's a reason why they are a major world religion.

Historically the Catholic Church has always been controlling. That control won't wipe itself clean. Especially not by forgiveness.

Doing so would be like forgiving Trump, a hundred years from now.
