At a very high price for nature and public health too, and it strengthens harmful stereotypes. I don't understand what people see in this technology.

We have yet to delve into the AI societal, economic and ethical issues.
The reason is very simple: the handful of oligarchs driving this field, paid the politicians to look the other way, as the former removed the guardrails, and decided to run a Formula 1 race, between Lake Como and Milano.
It is not art, because humans are not involved in creating it, but it's also not programming, because the humans are not programming it do do this, it's doing it on its own. I repeat: the AI is not copying existing art, it's producing its own.
The missing link is that this art is relying 100% on humans to tell it what's art and what's not. At some point though, AI will decide on its own, with no further inout from people.
