The first time I had ever heard of him was "I Wanna Be Your Lover". By the time of Controversy and 1999, I had no idea it was the same person! I bought the Black Album on bootleg in 1988 and still prefer it to Lovesexy. Never a die-hard fan but have a bunch of his albums. Saw him jump onstage with Stevie Wonder in 2007.

@bijouxbroussard I was still strictly AM radio at that point and I'm guessing music directors ran screaming from that title!
