AI's impact on society πŸ§‘β€πŸ’» πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«

Seven years ago, when I discussed with my coworkers that we are not far from the day when a superfast algorithm will take away jobs from many people, and every industry will be impacted by artificial intelligence. Only a handful acknowledged and had similar concerns, but the rest just smirked and ignored it with the remark, 'People used to say the same thing about computers.' Today, we are at that point where the entry-level jobs are being eliminated due to the introduction of AI-integrated business models. Almost every tech professional is worried about his/her career and future. When the godfather of AI (Dr Geoffrey Hinton) resigned from Google, expressing concerns about the fast-paced evolution of artificial intelligence, not everybody took his words on a serious note. Just two years later, the impact of this technology is fearsome.

A few days ago, NVIDIA's CEO stated that people will not lose jobs to AI but to those who understand and know how to use AI. Fair enough! However, how many know how to use AI? I am not referring to basic use of AI like using ChatGPT, Sora, etc. I am referring to the coding aspect of AI. I am a tech professional, and it is becoming difficult for me to learn, grasp and memorise all of it. After every few days, there's something new to learn. I respect and understand the fact that learning never stops. However, learning at intervals is easy for humans. It isn't the case today. Lots of tech professionals are struggling with the modern concepts. You get used to one type of work, and there's an update waiting for you. The work schedule and nature of work have become so dynamic that almost every professional is finding it difficult to cope with it. Just imagine how difficult it would be for non-tech professionals to understand this technology. As a matter of fact, will non-tech professionals ever get the chance to be trained on this technology? I doubt! Most tech giants prefer hiring experienced individuals. Especially nowadays! This is quite unfair to those who have no experience at all. How will an unexperienced person gain experience if he/she doesn't get the opportunity to prove his/her potential? Yes, there are internship opportunities, but nowadays internship programmes are more self-learning programmes. I see lots of interns struggle with learning a business or service by themselves. Nobody helps them. The organisations prefer hiring experienced individuals because they don't wish to waste time, money and resources on training. Where are we heading to?

Do humans have to be savant, adaptable, and excel in dynamic settings in order to survive in the near future? It seems like that.

I think this kind of evolution will also become the reason for people to withstand this technology because the majority of us humans aren't quick learners. Massive unemployment will become a major concern for many countries in the near future. We still have a massive population of Luddites and people who are happy with the basic use of technology but don't wish to understand the technology to the core.

Lots of customers are already complaining about the unfruitful interactions with the voice and chat bots of various service providers.

Now, we cannot ignore the voices of these experts. πŸ€”πŸ˜―
