A poem I made for my girlfriend who I feel so understood

I knew you from so long ago,
back when we were just a passing chapter . a era in our life
when what we had was casual ,
and neither of us knew
what love could become.

We were just two best friends
who stole a few kisses,
two hearts
always holding back
because our hearts were searching
for different places,
different people,
different versions of ourselves.

Even then,
you made my heart skip a beat.

Now,
it feels like it could burst from my chest
every time you’re near.

You fill me with a happiness
I never knew could exist.
Being with you feels like a beautiful kind of intoxication
like I’m floating,
high on nothing but your laugh,
your touch,
your presence.
If you were a drug,
you’d be the kind no one could ever walk away from.

There aren’t enough words
to tell you how deeply I care for you.
I only hope that, with time,
you’ll come to understand
the depth of what I feel.

This love is gentle.
Soft.
Pure.

Even when we’re wrapped in each other,
it never feels like lust.
It feels like tenderness.
Like two hearts speaking
without needing words.

I’d rather lose an entire night’s sleep
just to stay beside you.
I don’t want to think about tomorrow.
If I could stop time,
I’d spend forever lying next to you,
talking until the sun forgot to rise.

And when it’s time for you to leave,
my heart aches a little.
Because being with you
feels like the most natural place
I’ve ever known.

This is the kind of love
I’ve prayed for.
The kind I asked God to place in my life.
And somehow,
He did.

I found you.

Love has always frightened me.
It asks us to be vulnerable,
to leap without knowing where we’ll land.
But with you,
I’d drive straight into it without hesitation.

You are beautiful,
inside and out.
Your heart is as kind as it is rare.

Sometimes it feels like we’re reflections—
two souls with the same rhythm,
finding each other after all this time.

Maybe we first needed to grow,
to get lost,
to love the wrong people,
and to learn what love wasn’t,
so we’d recognize what it truly was
when we found our way back.

A conversation in bed,
your hand finding mine,
the way you look at me—
they’ve become the moments
I treasure most.

And if this is what love is meant to feel like—
this quiet,
this safe,
this effortless

then I’d choose you
in every lifetime,
at every age,
through every version of us.
