how do i live with a permanent disfigurement

my thumbnail on my right hand, is deformed looking and has grown back mostly with skin covering not nail, as i used to bite my nail off due to bad nervous problems, so it's my own fault really....but i was always vain and this disfigurement makes me down at times, as nothing can be done cosmetically to fix it, i don't think..

anyone else have a permanent disfigurement?
I had both my big toenails permanently removed about seven years ago.

Now, I have bits of nail that grow to a certain length, then keep getting snagged on socks, blankets and things until I rip them off.

I need to get the same surgery done n both second and third toenails, too.

There are far worse disfigurements to have; amputees, muscle contractions, spina bifida, arthritic joints, scoliosis, ect....

@MoonlightLullaby i suppose you're right, it is all about keeping it in perspective.
Both of my thumbnails have lines on them from old infections that damaged the matrix.

@LeopoldBloom damaged the matrix? what do you mean?
@darkmere1983 The part of your finger that the nail grows out of is called the matrix. Nothing to do with the movie.
