I Went Barefoot To School

Given the choice would you have attended school completely barefoot? During the summer.

Seems to be a regular and encouraged practice in New Zealand and South Africa so why not everywhere else during spring/summer.

What an interesting question Katie. It may well have been interesting to show up to school in bare feet. I'm not sure it would have been allowed when I was at school. It does seem interesting that girls can in effect be barefoot at school in that they sometimes don't have socks or tights on if shoes. Perhaps it's cultural that in South Africa or New Zealand boys would be able to but not necessarily in the UK.

I understand it’s a culture thing in South Africa and NZ but given that historically the white population in each country probably originated from UK it’s a shame it’s not a culture thing that we have here too. I’d have absolutely loved to simply rock up to school without any shoes or have even give a moments thought that my feet were bare. @GkB01

@KatieJ A good point well made I think. I can think of a few girls that would have been more than comfortable with it if it was the fashion in my school days, and probably some of us boys too.

@GkB01 Older girls at my school are allowed to wear shoes without socks or tights, but we cannot have bare feet outside of the gym or our boarding houses.

schools should encourage bare feet in the class rooms at least. Comfortable kids means smarter kids as they are more relaxed and can concentrate better. @GkB01

@GkB01 No, shoes have to stay on in school lessons but I found it more comfortable to work in bare feet.

@KatieJ They are horrible 😟 When the younger girls in our house get back from lessons, they take off their shoes and socks in the hallway to save bringing mud into the house and so they do not slip on the polished areas 🐻
