I Went Barefoot To School

My high school had spirit days every Friday, and they would get kids to volunteer to lead one. My senior year, I led a barefoot spirit day for one of the first Fridays in spring. The idea was to go to school barefoot and paint spring-themed designs on your feet. We were able to get almost everyone in the school, about 400 kids, to do it, and I think it got alot of kids into barefooting who hadn't tried it before.

This reminds me of the year I attended an “OPEN SCHOOL”, which allowed all students, and teachers, to go barefoot if we wished. Going barefoot was "the norm." I remember my feet were always filthy:

BTW: My open school didn't impose dress codes. Back then EMO hair “bright color” and CoPlay (costume play) was quite popular. I went to school with hair like this:

And outfits like this (not kidding):

Since then, going barefoot has become a habit with me. I go barefoot whenever I can. A few years ago; I read about two sisters who hiked the entire Appalachian Trail barefoot. After reading; I decided to do a few barefoot hikes. I love the sensation of feeling "Mother Earth" beneath my feet:
