People equate slimness with beauty, health, success, they don't want to associate or validate people with the 'wrong' shape/size/weight, they are embarrassed/ashamed by what they perceive as a failure in that person. That's not to say you can't celebrate or appreciate losing weight, but it's just my general experience/perception of how people treated me differently. Just generally warmer after losing weight.

Sammy Davis Jr. famously quipped: "My mother was born in San Juan. So I'm Puerto Rican, Jewish, colored, and married to a white woman. When I move into a neighborhood, people start running four ways at the same time."

My theory: They are more confident after losing the weight and people have more respect for them because we all know it’s not an easy journey.
As a fat who has also been previously fit, I would like to know the answer to this.😼 (I know, but I enjoy seeing what other people have to say)

I think it's more about confidence. If you have the same confidence you get treated the same.

Once I lost too much weight from an illness and people treated me like I was anorexic and needed help.

Because of a societal bias against "fat" people.
