Many years ago my wife & I were in a big hotel somewhere in urban Texas for a wedding. Our toddler was an early riser on east coast time, so 5:30 AM found me pursuing our son as he toddled about the cavernous lobby giggling and bouncing off the furniture.
An elderly hotel employee who was probably at the tail end of the graveyard shift came up to us; I thought he was going to ask me to quiet the boy down. But all he said was "you don't know what love is, do you, until you have a little one."
Truer words were never spoken.
