I Am Not An Atheist

I was reading some quotes by an atheist one of which was : “Limiting the rights and freedoms of others in order to make them abide by your standards. That's a sin.”
This misguided gentleman apparently had forgotten that during the 20th century a regime governed by atheism limited the rights and freedoms of 250 million people in order to make them abide by the standards of the regime. People who didn’t abide by the standards of the regime will put in prison camps and many were murdered - around 35 million in peace time alone. Ah the benefits of atheism! Why didn’t this guy mention that?

"governed by atheism" 😂

Oh man thats good. I forget sometimes how freaking funny you are.

Tell me another one!
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Well as religion was illegal what else? You really need some education. Try reading history. Full of facts not fantasies believed by gullible people like yourself. You might like to try some facts sometime . You make my point perfectly - atheism is based on ignorance. @Pherick
Pherick · 41-45, M
@Speedyman Speaking of reading, making you should try some...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positive_Christianity

As @DrSunnyTheSkeptic mentioned below, it wasn't about no religion, it was about using religion to help them keep control.

If you have anything that refutes that feel free to post it!
Speedyman · 70-79, M
You are totally wrong. Religion was banned. Atheism was taught in schools and children were subject to indoctrination with atheism. It wasn’t just that there was no religion people were indoctrinated with atheism . When Yuri Gargarin went into space he was instructed to say there was no God up there as part of the atheist propaganda of the state . You are just plain wrong ! It wasn’t that there was just no God there was a very positive indoctrination of atheism@Pherick
Pherick · 41-45, M
@Speedyman So since you can't seem to post anything, and never do, but lets try this. What regime are you talking about?

That way when I prove you wrong, it will be easy to keep track.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
I would have thought it obvious even to you. The Soviet regime of which the historian Ben MacIntyre described as ‘A giant prison camp housing 250 million inmates’ They even had to build a wall to keep people in the Utopia. @Pherick
Pherick · 41-45, M
@Speedyman Oh it was obvious, but with you, I like to lock things down.

So again though, this wasn't the people of the Soviet Union deciding they wanted to be atheists and then the country turning into an atheist paradise. This was government enforcing atheism in order to curb the power of religion to organize people against the government.

In other words, atheism had nothing to do with it, it was pure anti-religious policies that were put into affect. Plus religion was allowed and encouraged at certain times, when it politically expedite to do so.
The regime's efforts to eradicate religion in the Soviet Union, however, varied over the years with respect to particular religions and were affected by higher state interests. In 1923, a New York Times correspondent saw Christians observing Easter peacefully in Moscow despite violent anti-religious actions in previous years. Official policies and practices not only varied with time, but also differed in their application from one nationality to another and from one religion to another.
So to wrap it up, you are wrong. Atheism as a mindset was not truly used in the Soviet Union, it was the government twisting and warping religion and anti-religion to use as they wished to try and control the population.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
I said the regime was atheistic.you really need to learn to read. It was atheistto the core. Atheism was taught in schools. There were atheist indoctrination classes. What more do you want? You guys deny the absolute obvious which is not surprising as you are atheists. Your statement is absolutely laughable to anybody who lived through that@Pherick
Pherick · 41-45, M
@Speedyman Except it wasn't atheist. It used anti-religion as a method of control, except when those in power didn't want it. As was shown by the quote I posted.

There is a huge difference between an atheist regime and a regime who just uses anti-religious leaning to enforce control.

You can do better.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
It was atheist. You can post what you like but the regime was atheist. They had atheist propaganda talk to students in the schools. You are a typical atheist in that you deny what is common sense and totally obvious to any sensible person. @Pherick
Pherick · 41-45, M
@Speedyman Except it wasn't. As was easily shown by evidence showing that religion was allowed and state endorsed when it was useful for the government to do so.

So you are wrong. Want to try again or keep embarrassing yourself by denying it but providing no evidence to prove your point?
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Interesting that Stalin then had many of the churches levelled and the pastors imprisoned or executed. The state was officially atheist. The regime that governed it was atheist. I know you are one of these people who likes to call black white but that is history. The regime was atheist @Pherick
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Speedyman Of course the Soviet state was officially atheist. Any student of history knows that. They hung a pendulum in the doorway of a cathedral to show how 'science' triumphed over 'religion'. Strangely the pendulum is gone and the services in the cathedral are being offered again. Funny how that works.
Pherick · 41-45, M
@Speedyman It is interesting that they did that, and THEN allowed for religious practices when it was expedient for them to do so.

Its almost like they were anti-religious and just cared about control over the populace ...

Try again ...
Pherick · 41-45, M
@hippyjoe1955 Funny how it was only about being anti-religious because religion allowed for people to have hope and the government wanted all control.

Funny how the government fell and science and true atheism continued on because one governments craziness didn't matter or affect it.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Pherick You have no sense of history do you? Too Funny! Here is a hint. A dear friend of mine is from Russia. He was a doctor of medicine and sent abroad as an ambassador of health to Mozambique. While there he met some Christians and converted to Christianity himself. He laughs at himself as he realized the moment he became a Christian he could never return home. He would be imprisoned for having converted. He sought refuge in Canada and is practicing medicine here.
Pherick · 41-45, M
@hippyjoe1955 Really? Man, you lie like its breathing don't you???

Over 50% of the country is Christian, so this high ranking official had to flee because he converted??? TOOO FUNNY!!!
Foreign missionary groups operate freely in the country.[3] Some groups offer religious teaching centers to their local communities, while others provide scholarships for students to study in their respective countries.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Pherick Talk to him. He was there. You are completely uninformed. Kind of sucks to be as stupid as you just showed yourself to be.
Pherick · 41-45, M
@hippyjoe1955 Nah, just more of your lies. Maybe you try and atleast lie about things that are not easily researched?

I am not holding out much hope for you though.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
So the regime is made up of atheists who send out atheist propaganda and haven’t taught in schools yet it’s not atheistic. A bit like saying the Pope is not a catholic I would think! The logic of atheists! 🤣🤣🤣@Pherick
Speedyman · 70-79, M
@Pherick please learn to read. he couldn’t return to Russia!
Pherick · 41-45, M
@Speedyman LOL You know I thought at some point you and Hippy where the same person, you both share that "I don't know anything, and all I do is insult people" thing.

Now you just proved it to me. Hippy didn't catch I misread that, and yet, he replied. So he posted it, I misread and he didn't catch it, YET you did?

LOL Dear god you are patethic. Get a life!

PS: Even in Russia, no one is persecuted for being Christian. Do some reading!

Speedyman · 70-79, M
You are completely ridiculous and know nothing of history. I was not talking about Russia today I was talking about the old Soviet Block. When are you going to actually learn to read what people are writing?@Pherick
Pherick · 41-45, M
@Speedyman OK Hippy ;) 😂
