@specman As an atheist (I dislike this adversarial term) I agree with your point. And it's important to remember that the theist has added incentive to be good- not necessarily because subservience is required but because of an attractive lure in afterlife and the feeling that a more pleasant version can be earned.

@SW-User If only belief in God prevents one from pulling the trigger and killing someone, I'd suggest the stay is temporary.

The theist has an incentive to behave according to the tenets of their religion. That's not necessarily the same thing as what everyone else would regard as good.
