Science has been the best answer to everything I've ever wondered.
I was brought up in a very religious household and it's been an absolute shocker to my family when I told them I'm an atheist and would now make no effort to participate in any of their customs and traditions...
But this isn't what this post is about... It's about the realization and becoming accustomed to and living with the fact that I have only one life. We all do. If we follow the evidence and ignore the claims of religions started by people living 2000 years ago, Science brings us to an extremely important and telling realization- that we're simply lucky to be alive. It's a sheer, improbable accident and in all probability, it should've never happened. We shouldn't have been here, but here we are. There's a 1 in 10^(100 trillion) chance that we could be here. And even if one out of the millions of things that had to happen one after the other wouldn't have happened- we simply wouldn't be here.
That thought was so liberating, because it frees you of all kinds of responsibility and compulsion and makes you realize that you're free, naked and you can live life in any way you want. And it also teaches you to never regret anything. Because Science- Nature- whatever you call it- is unbiased and imperfect.
So count your blessings- because that's what they are- blessings. And while you cannot be happy all the time- it is truly a privilege to be alive at a time like this.
