That includes you@Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@williamangliss It's impolite to force blessings upon someone who doesn't believe in that sort of thing.

In fact, I would go so far as to say it's offensive.
williamangliss · 41-45, M
Why would a
Blessing be offensive ?@Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@williamangliss Well, how would you feel for example if someone sacrificed a baby to an Aztec god and declared you the recipient of that blessing?
williamangliss · 41-45, M
If I was an atheist it wouldn’t worry me at all@Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@williamangliss Oh, so you believe that athiests are not concerned by the death of infants for some sort of fantasy?
williamangliss · 41-45, M
I’m saying why should you be concerned? Is it a moral thing ?@Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@williamangliss I would be concerned about any unnecessary death. But especially about one that was completely wasteful and had no practical purpose.
williamangliss · 41-45, M
No comment ???@williamangliss
williamangliss · 41-45, M
Why would you be concerned?@Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@williamangliss Because death is a waste of potential, a waste of what might have been. The things people could have done, the affect they might have had on the world around them. All snatched away.
williamangliss · 41-45, M
What’s the big deal ? Last count I believe that there are 7 billion of us therefore there’s no shortage of potentials that will be as opposed to what could have been @Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@williamangliss So you're cool with losing a few then?
williamangliss · 41-45, M
I’m not , my question is why are you so concerned? 7 billion people definitely no shortage!! What’s your concern ?is it a moral issue perhaps ?@Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@williamangliss Even if it were a moral issue, morals are created by society, not a gift from 'on high'.
williamangliss · 41-45, M
So is it a moral issue or not ?@Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@williamangliss It depends on the reason and nature of the death in question.
williamangliss · 41-45, M
Aztec example that you gave @Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@williamangliss Well, that would be a terrible, stupid, and yes, morally reprehensible act in today's society.
williamangliss · 41-45, M
Were they a society ?@Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@williamangliss They were. At the time the act would not have been morally wrong though as society dictated that it was an acceptable practice.

Morals change over time.
williamangliss · 41-45, M
So if they change then it’s ok to disagree with you and say that sacrificial acts are ok now time for a change !!! If I can get enough people to agree with me then it’s all good Green light lets kill some babies ??? And that’s if you’re correct in saying that today’s morals are different @Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@williamangliss Morals change from time period to time and period and across all societies.

If society dictated that it was acceptable then that's what it would be.

Look at euthanasia. Traditionally in the Western world it's been frowned upon (largely for religious reasons), but over time it's becoming more acceptable, and given enough time I believe will be freely available.

The moral view of that variety of death is changing.
williamangliss · 41-45, M
Correct
Therefore an atheistic view is go with the flow
Euthanasia , abortions (millions per annum) sacrificial acts are all morally ok if enough people agree
@Quizzical
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@williamangliss No, that's MY view. There isn't a universal atheist view.

It's a common misconception that all atheists think exactly the same thing.
