I am not an atheist.
And I agree with you.
In my life religion has been the source of some of the most vicious and inhumane treatment of others. From money to shenanigans to normalized sexual abuse to what I would call the violence of guilt and manipulation. That isn’t a blanket indictment. If the shoe fits people should wear it. Otherwise— nothing here.
I have come to believe that the wall between church and state needs to be made of kryptonite. And that religion should have no exalted or protected status in society beyond one’s right to assemble. It should be as subject to scrutiny, criticism and social comment as anything else in a pluralistic modern society.
