Just heard there’s a meteor shower tonight

I’m going to try to see it. I saw one a year or two ago. It satisfied some inner-child need I had to check them out and feel excited about the sky as if seeing this would change anything on the ground.

I told a few people in my life. This time, like last time, I know what the responses will be: “Meh. I’m not staying up or waking up for that.” But I told them anyway on the off chance they might want to enjoy something with me (even though they won’t actually be with me).

Being on a different side of town now, newly-built, and still surrounded by so much dirt fields means it might be more beautifully visible than it was before. Less city lights to dim the view. I really hope I get to see it.

I do hope you caught them.
The Perseids are a show not to be missed.
Like you, my home is in dark sky country, and its view unobstructed.

We would have each been outside the same night, same expanse of sky.
I counted 9 (6 in 15 minutes from all directions), including a fireball with a lingering white hot glow against the black.
How many did you see?

Something in us is awakened. The inner child that marvels at the wonder of it all; and the lowly human, humbled; insignificant, as he stares into infinity.
@SethGreene531 Awesome! 🥰 I saw a fireball one and one that stretched across the sky more visibly than the usual shooting star. All in all, I saw maybe 10.
It’s something almost magical to be watching these with people around the world who are able to see it.
@Colonelmustardseed That's tremendous! I'm glad you had such spectacular sightings!!
Yes, a shared experience across the world, making somehow all the more connected, and united in spirit. 🤗 👍👍

@robertsnj Yeah. Normally it’s either cloudy or too bright. 😕

I can appreciate meteor showers and stuff like that, but I wouldn't wake up for it either. I want my first time to be natural. Someday I'll just look up and be like "woah"
@MartinTheFirst Why would you randomly be out lurking around at crazy hours of the night? 🧐
