Drifting away

Moon is drifting away from earth and in future we could have 25hours in a day..
The Earth slows it's rotation as the moon moves away farther.

Not something any of us alive now will notice, but do you know the rate of separation?
Babaloo6 · 41-45, M
@ArishMell yes,.. It's about 3.82 cm per year
Babaloo6 · 41-45, M
@ArishMelland distance of moon from earth is 384,000 km

@Babaloo6 Thank you!

That's a more rapid retreat than I'd thought, I must admit. 38mm/yr... I was thinking more likely something like 0.3mm/yr or even less.

One effect I imagine it will have, eventually, is lower tidal ranges.

@ArishMell you are welcome..
