Is it bad that I think humans going to Mars is a colossal waste of time and money?

Personally, I wish we'd put all of our energy into a near-term goal first, such as establishing a permanent Moon base. But going to Mars isn't a bad idea either, since it forces us to develop new technologies to solve all of the astronomical challenges involved, much like in the Apollo missions. Rovers are really cool, but they're never gonna be anywhere near as effective as a human being on the surface, especially with the massive communications delay.
