I Love Gymnastics

Gymnastics was far better coached at the club than in high school.

Better equipment and cleaner floors too, which is a must if you are encouraging bare feet as a preference.

High school involved walking down a multi-use corridor and stairs before getting to the gym, dirty feet by then, which wouldn't be acceptable in a gymnastics club.

When we did gym work, we didn't need to put shoes on to go to the gym in comp. It was next to the changing room, so we were able to walk into the hall in bare feet. The floor was a bit dusty, not that anyone seemed to mind. All part of the fun, getting dusty feet. I can see how it wouldn't be allowed in a gym club though.

@GkB01 that's better than my comp school, we had the multi use corridor....

We had the short distance moving from the changing rooms to the sports hall in comp. Corridors were only a part of middle school, and only if the classroom was far enough away from the school hall. one particular year the school hall was literally 2 or 3 steps from the classroom so we didn't need to put shoes on then.

@GkB01 the corridor was the one bad part of having bare feet!
GkB01 · 51-55, M
@Adec757 I don't recall it being too bad, where we were the short distance from the hall. It was literally the shortest of distances, at worst it was chilly. The first part of the lesson invariably consisted of trying to find ways to get our feet warm!!
Adec757 · 51-55, M
@GkB01 yes! Corridor was lino, at least the gym was wood and then mats!
GkB01 · 51-55, M
At least if we were too far from the hall we were able to slip our shoes back on and go there that way. When we were in the classroom the short distance away, to anyone walking by, our attempts to get circulation back in cold feet would have looked very odd, everything probably except blowing on cold toes and certainly wriggling them a lot!!

@GkB01 mats were the best lol!
GkB01 · 51-55, M
@Adec757 I don't recall there being enough mats for us all to sit on, we were still going initially from cold lino (if only briefly) to slightly less cold school hall floor!!
Adec757 · 51-55, M
@GkB01 oh yes, the hall floor in middle was bloody cold if you had an early lesson!
GkB01 · 51-55, M
@Adec757 I reckon I still wouldn't have worn plimsoles though.
Adec757 · 51-55, M
@GkB01 I tried not too!
GkB01 · 51-55, M
@Adec757 Does that imply you sometimes had to?
Adec757 · 51-55, M
@GkB01 yes the teacher wanted us too sometimes 😕
GkB01 · 51-55, M
The sad faced emoji probably illustrates how you felt!! Was there a particular reason for your teacher preferring some lessons done shod and yet others not?
Adec757 · 51-55, M
@GkB01 if it was too cold!!!!! 😕
GkB01 · 51-55, M
@Adec757 Was the temperature decision just your teachers discretion? Does the sad faced emoji imply you'd rather have been barefoot?
Adec757 · 51-55, M
@GkB01 it was their decision but hey you feet get used to it, bare feet was personal choice 😀
GkB01 · 51-55, M
@Adec757 They certainly do, feet will soon warm up, dirty/dusty feet can be cleaned and although better for showing technique, to be honest that didn't really come into it for me. The personal choice you speak of was because it was just great fun!!😀

@GkB01 I'm pretty sure that there were far better exponents of PE in my classes both in middle school and comp. I looked forward to it as a break from normal lessons, and indoor PE as a preference to outdoor as my feet were free from being crammed inside socks and shoes for a while. How would anyone not look forward to that?😀

@GkB01 I play cricket and it's lovely getting bowling spikes and thick socks off!
GkB01 · 51-55, M
@Adec757 Cricket is one of my favourite sports (watching at least, I'm an enthusiastic trier skills wise, nothing more). How does the hard ball etc square with having bare feet?
Adec757 · 51-55, M
@GkB01 it doesn't lol!
GkB01 · 51-55, M
@Adec757 That is what would bother me. I think I would (even reluctantly) opt for footwear in this instance.
