Several years ago I saw the Mona Lisa at the Louvre in Paris. In front of it was a huge deep crowd of people holding up phones, trying to get a shot of the famous painting or a selfie with it in the background. It was an absurd train station rush hour atmosphere; no way to appreciate the Mona Lisa.
I've also seen some of Monet's Water Lilies at the MoMA in NYC. There it was a quiet relaxed atmosphere where you could sit on a bench and soak in the beauty.
