I saw a great tip on painting miniatures- paint with a black wash first, and wipe it off while its still wet.
What happens is the black stays in all the crevices, and adds more dimension.
Also, apparently black is a good primer colour for metalics.

@OogieBoogie Thats a really good tip. Actually, I've seen that done before but the figure was pre-painted.
